This design began life as a six-part counted cross stitch series. I received lots of requests to also make it into a quilt, and here it is! I'm a huge fan of polka dots and stripes, so this was fun to put together. The finished quilt is 40" x 41" and all the applique pieces are already reversed to make tracing onto fusible adhesive a breeze.
Simple stem stitch embroidery with a few colonial or french knots, all made with Weeks Dye Works over-dyed Pearl Cotton #5, adds the details. This would make a fun block of the month project! Star buttons are from Hillcreek Designs.
In a hurry for a quick gift or project? Take any block from the quilt and make a pillow, banner or wall hanging! Twenty-four pages of fun!

PLEASE NOTE: I failed to add an important step in the general applique instructions. When two fabrics butt up to each other, like flower petals and a flower center, the one that is underneath the other should have a bit extra (scant 1/4") of fabric added along that edge to tuck under it's neighbor. The easiest way to do this is add it to your fusible web when tracing. Draw the actual line and add another line to extend the fabric that will tuck under. That way, you are sure you have added the extra fabric at a glance.
